Why Regular HVAC Maintenance Matters

Fall Furnace Checklist (September - October)
Complete these tasks before heating season begins:
- Replace furnace filter (every 1-3 months depending on type)
- Test thermostat — switch to heat mode and verify it responds
- Listen for unusual noises when furnace starts
- Check all vents and registers are open and unobstructed
- Inspect furnace exhaust pipe for blockages or damage
- Test carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries
- Check furnace flame — it should be blue, not yellow or orange
- Schedule professional annual tune-up
Spring AC Checklist (April - May)
Before air conditioning season:
- Clean or replace furnace/air handler filter
- Clear debris from around outdoor AC unit
- Straighten any bent fins on the outdoor condenser
- Test AC operation — run for 15 minutes and verify cool air
- Check refrigerant lines for ice or frost (indicates a problem)
- Clean condensate drain line with diluted bleach
- Verify thermostat works in cool mode
Monthly Tasks
- Check and replace furnace filter as needed
- Listen for unusual sounds from furnace or AC
- Check thermostat batteries
- Ensure vents are open and not blocked by furniture
